Thanks to Cai King for organizing and hanging the Postcard display at the Fresno Arts Council Gallery at 1245 Van Ness Avenue in Fresno, California. ArtHop started at 5 pm and continued until 8 pm. Many art enthusiasts stopped by the gallery to see the Postcards From California Fiber Art Challenge. ArtHop will continue on January 17 from 5-8 pm. The Postcard display will hang in the gallery for the entire month of January. I hope you will be able to stop by and see the Postcards making their first art gallery appearance. I couldn’t be happier.

Postcards & me.

Cai King of Fresno writes….

I don’t know too many fiber junkies who haven’t cross-pollinated across multiple fiber media: knitters who sew, seamstresses who tat, tatters who hook, hookers who quilt, and sew it goes. One medium influencing another as one artist inspires the next. When Gail Becker first shared her vision of the Postcards challenge I was definitely supportive–she is in my guild after all & a merry soul besides–but I had no idea where this adventure in wool would take me. A quilt block to signify the sisterhood of fiber, especially one so aptly named as Road to California, seemed an innate choice. Some quilt historians ascribe this pattern design to the influence of the Trans-Continental Railroad. Although we all got here by various means, I can so clearly imagine Gail & I, in calico dresses and bonnets, dusty, butt-weary from miles on a bucking wooden seat, color planning as we held something to make in our hands-go West young women…and I know she’d be keeping me in stitches the whole way.
