Beginnings

California has been called a “state of mind.”  My parents moved to California in 1954, driving a Nash sedan and hauling all their belongings and their three children in a U-Haul trailer (the kids actually rode in the car).  We first settled in southern California and later moved further north.  I’ve lived in many areas of the State and it is only recently that I have begun to consider myself a “California Girl.”

This fiber art challenge is a way to celebrate California and all the things I/we love about the State.  I hope that other rug hookers and fiber enthusiasts will participate in the challenge and also share some stories or thoughts about California.

Future posts will include photos of finished postcards, tips for finishing small projects, embellishing, and adding lettering, plus the stories behind the postcards.

  1. Well, I have an idea but the execution is another thing as I finish one rug and start another as well as consider what to make for my mother for Christmas AND the two rugs awaiting the biennial in October. Gail, you are always thinking!!

  2. I visit my best friend/sister-in-law every two years for the holidays in December, so my postcard would definitely be something from Topanga or their wonderful house on the hill, the gardens we plant together… great memories.
thanks for the challenge – it will be fun to see all the different postcards!

  3. Thanks for inviting me to participate but I have never visited California. I am not sure I could make a postcard of a place I have only dreamed about.

  4. Gail it was lovely to meet up with you again – Jude and I will definitely have post cards coming your way – we have so many great memories of CA — just where to start is the problem. (lol)
    Cheers Jo

    • Hi Susan, Thank you for participating and getting the information out to your Peninsula Guild. I can’t wait to see what you guys do. I’m off to Petaluma today to hook with the Wine Country Guild tomorrow. Sorry to have missed you at Western this year, but hope our paths cross soon.
      Gail
